About

Similar to the possibility to create a custom menu, you can add your own color schemes. TomTom uses a common format for the "Navigator" and "GO" platform.

The Color File

The color definition is a plain ASCII file of the following structure:

rrr,ggg,bbb // descriptive comment

where rrr, ggg, bbb are numeric representations of the corresponding Red, Green and Blue value of the color ranging from 000 up to 255 each. The descriptive comment is not used by the software, instead it selects the entry by line number. Although you may change the comment to any value, you should use a word or phrase that describes where this color is indeed used on the map. Currently there are 70 lines of color definition in this file.

sample content

The sample file is taken from a free published color scheme called "HOLLAND"

The Color Style Editor

While it is possible to change this file with any ASCII editor, users with Windows Platform can use the aid if a "Color Style Editor" which is published here.

Download an install the Color scheme editor

First of all, get the editor (grab a couple of example styles while you're at it) and install it.

Bear in mind - for me is started with iirc Svenska as the language. Just go to the second menu, and select the last option on that menu. That brings up the language dialog.

To start working with the editor, you must first load a sample color file to work with. You currently cannot start from scratch, but you may start with the above sample or any other you can downoad.

The program features a preview, so you can see how the scheme will look on the GO.

When saving the file, you can give it any name but make sure you give it the extension ".clr". The file name later shows up in the color selection screen on the GO.

load the scheme(s) into the unit

Next... create a folder on your Go - (again, TomTom is case sensitive)

schemes

Copy editied styles to this folder on your go.. remembering to make sure that the file has the extension

.clr

Do I need to mention that it's lower case?

activate the new colors

Go to Change preferences-> change map colors ... keep clicking the arrows until you reach 'Plug-in scheme' then click select. You should see a list of your schemes. Select one to load for the day or night colors as required...

Bask in the sunlight and have fun creating your own color schemes...
